Short bio (~50 words)

Melanie Koeppen writes for children growing up between languages. Her debut, The Wondrous Story of Amy, Bruno, and Clarissa, is a 26-chapter alphabet adventure published simultaneously in English, German, and Brazilian Portuguese. She runs multilingual.school, a home for multilingual families, and lingohop.eu, a translation service for self-publishing authors.

Mid bio (~120 words)

Melanie Koeppen writes for children growing up between languages. Her debut, The Wondrous Story of Amy, Bruno, and Clarissa, is a 26-chapter alphabet adventure published simultaneously in English, German, and Brazilian Portuguese. These three languages are equal household languages in her own home, which is why every book idea naturally takes shape in all three. The idea for the book grew from a love of reading, and of learning through reading. Rather than grinding through worksheets, why not read stories, learn, and learn to read along the way.

She runs multilingual.school, a home for multilingual families, and lingohop.eu, a translation service for self-publishing authors.

Long bio (~200 words)

Melanie Koeppen writes for children growing up between languages. Her debut, The Wondrous Story of Amy, Bruno, and Clarissa, is a 26-chapter alphabet adventure published simultaneously in English, German, and Brazilian Portuguese. These three languages are equal household languages in her own home, which is why every book idea naturally takes shape in all three. The idea for the book grew from a love of reading, and of learning through reading: rather than grinding through worksheets, why not read stories and learn through them.

The most fascinating thing about the project itself was the language itself: which words work in all three languages with the same starting letter? Which narrative arc carries equally across all three? In that sense one cannot say which language came first and which was "translated." Melanie wrote three versions in parallel.

She runs multilingual.school, a home for multilingual families, and lingohop.eu, a translation service for self-publishing authors. More book projects are planned.
